Floyd Mayweather open to idea of fighting UFC’s Conor McGregor: ‘It’s possible’

We can still make a lot of money with Conor McGregor in an MMA fight.

Famed trainer Freddie Roach said he willing to train mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor after getting a call from the Irishman’s camp. Although the logistics of a fight with McGregor would be an absolute mess, it’s certainly something that has the general public talking.

Despite his protestations, White was clearly pissed off by the featherweight champion’s shenanigans, but the profitable pairing have patched things up with daily phonecalls. No commission in its right mind would grant a license to a guy who has never even boxed in the amateur ranks to face someone who is 49-0, the best boxer in this generation and one of the greatest of all-time. We’re gonna put the little speed bump in the road behind us and move forward. “So everything is great”.

McGregor, who was choked into submission in a non-title bout against Diaz in March, subsequently hinted that he could retire before making an aborted attempt to get back on the card. He said he understands fans want to see McGregor on UFC 200, but that he had to take a stand.

Even with UFC President Dana White’s claim of a $10 million advertising budget, Meltzer doubted that UFC 200’s ability to top or be at par with its predecessors.

There’s rarely a day where Conor McGregor doesn’t do something interesting. This is how it works. If he needs help in boxing, because that’s all I can help him with. He knew what the deal was. I couldn’t say that without working with him. “He opted to do that”.

All this comes on the back of Floyd Mayweather Sr. telling ES News on Saturday that his son was considering a fight against McGregor when speaking to Helen Yee on the red carpet at the Nevada State Hall of Fame Awards.

The rumour mill has been spinning in overdrive, and unlike most rumours, these ones have been fuelled by the very people they concern.

“We haven’t talked about it. Conor McGregor’s under contract with the UFC”, White said.

The other reason why this story is bogus, which was mentioned by Ariel Helwani, is the payouts as noted by The Sun, with Floyd supposedly earning £100 million for the fight and Conor making £7 million.
