Floyd Mayweather to face Andre Berto on Sept. 12 at MGM Grand

He added, “I always bring my A-game and this fight against Andre Berto is no exception”. Garcia picked Malignaggi apart throughout the fight and on the 9 round, referee Mercante Jr. had seen enough and stepped in to finally stop the fight.

The 38-year-old Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) is in the final fight of his 6-fight deal with Showtime, and has said on multiple occasions that he would retire after this deal was completed.

Mayweather, 38, last month hinted that he either would fight Berto or Karim Mayfield.

It will take place September 12, at the MGM in Las Vegas.

At its current average, this fight would have the third most expensive secondary market Floyd Mayweather tickets since at least 2010, the year TiqIQ began keeping track of secondary market data.

While Andre Berto is rumored to be Mayweather’s combatant, there have been no firm details of who his next opponent will be. His WBC belt is all that is on my mind each and every waking moment.

Mayweather has not fought since beating Manny Pacquiao on points in May. But he faces a stout challenge. “Book your hotel and flights now”, Mayweather tweeted Tuesday morning.

Despite the long shot odds, Berto is insisting that he will be ready.

Berto was 27-0 before that loss and considered a hot prospect for a potential Mayweather bout. He had plenty of other suitors. Another possible opponent that is making a loud noise is Amir Khan. Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Timothy Bradley and Gennady Golovkin all expressed interest. The opportunity for a televised victory tour may have also factored strongly in the decision to put the bout on pay-per-view, rather than over-the-air broadcast television.

“I’m coming to kick Floyd’s ass”, Berto said. As best as I can tell, some folks in positions of power think the “freebie” fight is the best plan, being that fans have wallet fatigue, and many felt stung by the high sticker price of #MayPac, made more hurtful by the fact that Manny didn’t compete all that well.

“Somebody is going to get knocked out and it won’t be me”. Last September 6, he earned a 10-round unanimous decision over Steve Chambers.

Floyd Mayweather became the most prolific money-maker in sports history via a pay-per-view model which is in serious trouble as video pirates use technology to beat boxing promoters to the punch. In addition to the fight being on PPV, Showtime will re-activate its “All Access” reality show to help promote the fight.

The September 12 card will also include a fight for the super-middleweight between champion Badou Jack and challenger George Graves. “My promoter, Floyd Mayweather, has had my back during the ups and downs of my career and I want to make him and the whole Mayweather Promotions team proud on September 12″. Both fights are scheduled for 12 rounds.

“Berto is a former world champion but now belongs at the bottom end of the world’s top 20.”
