Mayweather is expected to make the official announcement (on Berto) any time now especially with reports that both camps are in the polishing stages of making the fight happen.

Berto (30-3, 23 KOs), who has experienced career ups and downs lately, was last in action with back-to-back victories over Josesito Lopez and Steve Chambers.

In an intervivew with TMZ, Berto said “It’s a pleasure and honor to be in this position and I’m looking forward to capitalizing on every moment of it”.

This approach is in stark contrast to how Mayweather prepared for his bout with Pacquiao, when he cut everything his chef deemed “unhealthy” from his diet. Until it’s been officially confirmed by the man himself, Floyd Mayweather Jr., you have to take this news with a grain of salt. So what does it take for Mayweather to earn their respect?

Mayweather looks to match heavyweight Rocky Marciano’s mythical 49-0 mark with a win later this summer. Right after his win over Manny Pacquiao and in weeks leading up to the rumored Mayweather-Berto pairing, the more prominent names to come up were Amir Khan, Keith Thurman, Kell Brook, Danny Garcia, Miguel Cotto, Adrian Broner, Lucas Matthysee, Terrence Crawford and Gennady Golovkin. Rafael mentions that CBS potentially airing the fight instead of a pay-per-view (PPV) medium is seen as a “goodwill move” after the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight didn’t live up to expectations with a price of $100 on PPV. “You can’t have any inconclusive stuff”, Hunter told Hustle Boss when asked about the probable Mayweather-Berto fight later this year.

Berto would only fight once in 2013, badly injuring his shoulder in a razor thin upset loss to popular perennial contender Jesus Sotto Karrass before heavily contemplating retirement after undergoing major reconstructive shoulder surgery after that fight.

“Mayweather might be taking the fight knowing this, thinking he can outmaneuver the heavy-handed Berto”. Then again, people have been saying that for countless fights now.
