In previous years, Manitoba flue shots were trivalent immunizations created to protect against three different influenza strains – an influenza A H1N1 virus, an influenza A H3N2 virus and one influenza B virus.

They also want to dispel many rumors going around about this year’s vaccine.
The science says vaccines don’t work all that well, but still may save a few lives, and that is why health officials are recommending that you get vaccinated.
“The flu shot is absolutely your best protection against the flu”, said MSDH State Health Officer Dr. Mary Currier.
Anyone over 6 months old can receive it for free.
The flu shot also lasts a long time. Children and adolescents from two to 17 years old can receive FluMist Quadrivalent vaccine if they do not have any contraindications. The Gillam Hospital will offer flu shots from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. Oct. 21-23 and noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 28-30.
Children under 9 will need to be vaccinated at a public health clinic.
“Usually the flu peaks in the winter time, so it is a good time in the fall”, said Nancy Santoski, a Public Health Nurse at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department, “usually we get the flu vaccine in September, that way you can get it as soon as it comes out”.
The Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department administers flu shots by appointment or by walking in.

The provincial government has announced flu shots will be available as of October 19th.
