Flyers reportedly set to keep F Gagner – Article – TSN
But Gagner might not have a job.

Sam Gagner is now a member of the Philadelphia Flyers after the NHL Draft’s final big move on Saturday, when a team formerly owned by the National Hockey League traded for a league employee and his dead cap space.
Unrestricted free agent to-be Michael Frolik spoke with teams at the draft, but Hextall wouldn’t confirm if the Flyers were one of them.
The Flyers are on the hook for a $3.3 million cap hit next season on Gagner and aren’t sure if they’re going to keep him yet.
Gagner, who was selected one spot sooner than Jake Voracek in the 2007 draft, was a buyout candidate with the Coyotes and the Flyers are thinking about doing the same. In 81 games for the Coyotes in 2014-15, he recorded 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points, along with 28 PIM.
When the Arizona Coyotes sent signals out earlier this week suggesting that Sam Gagner was a potential buyout target, it seemed like his days in Sedona Red were all but over.
In many ways, the Flyers’ defensive problems began when Pronger took a stick to the eye in 2011. I’d love to be there.
Arizona GM Don Maloney was blunt about Gagner.
With the addition of another Swedish D-man Nicklas Grossmann to join OEL, Stone, Dahbeck, Moore, Murphy, Campbell – the defense is starting to look promising as well. Shane Doan, for instance, was minus-29.
“I thought I competed and played hard and played pretty well”. I know that’s what Philly likes. Pronger’s career is over due to concussions but he still has a couple of seasons left to be paid on his contract and while it will cost the Coyotes only $575,000 in actual money, the cap hit is $4,941,429 in each season. It’s a low salary to us.
“Unfortunately not – in any way, shape or form”, said Maloney. The Flyers will reportedly retain $500,000 of Grossmann’s $3.5 million salary. His top element is his skill level.
But in March, as first reported by ESPN.com, the Hall’s voting members ratified a new bylaw that allows entry for players who may still be receiving compensation but have not participated in a game in three years. With that being said, any forward can improve his game with the right development process.
If he does get bought out, he could then shop himself to any team as a free agent.
“I think for myself I always wanted to be the best I can be, and it hasn’t happened yet”. “I’m excited to prove to people I can play and be effective”. The sly fox had already completed a mind-bending trade that was as much about salary cap gymnastics as hockey, but he played coy when I approached him just off the draft floor.
“We’ll talk about all of our options”. ” “Our cap is still not totally cleaned up, but we”re a lot closer now,” Hextall said.

Gagner, who still bleeds orange and blue to a degree, has been following the Connor McDavid buzz in Edmonton. He said it was an “adjustment period” for him in Phoenix, and that he was “emotionally invested” during his seven seasons with the Oilers.
