Flyers turn to Michal Neuvirth in hopes of avoiding sweep
That’s the next objective for the Flyers: make the series go seven games. He finished with 31 saves, and more important, he controlled the majority of his rebounds and did not allow second chances.

Rookie defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere scored six minutes into the game on a shot from the point, giving the Flyers their first power-play goal of the series on his 23rd birthday. Luckily for the Philadelphia Flyers he was not rusty when it mattered as he helped them stave off elimination Wednesday night. The Capitals scored five unanswered goals and with poor goaltending from Steve Mason, the win got away from them. They trail three games to none in the series.
Despite the win, Philadelphia is yet to really solve Braden Holtby, who has a.966 save percentage in the series.
NOTES: Flyers LW Pierre-Edouard Bellemare served a one-game suspension for hitting Washington D Dmitry Orlov from behind in the third period of Game 3.
Laughton crashed hard into the boards behind the Washington net with 3:49 left in the first period after what appeared to be incidental contact with Capitals defenseman John Carlson.
He was “taken to Jefferson Hospital as a precaution”, as per the Official Flyers Twitter.
The Flyers tweeted that Laughton has been taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
“We were sporadic last game”, he said. Instead, it turned into a 6-1 spanking handed out by their Metropolitan Division rivals the Washington Capitals.
“It was huge, ” Simmonds said. It’s just one of those plays that you feel like you do a lot in the game, and it never ends up like that. “Just to see that one go in really early was nice”. “We’re going to keep going”. Great 60 minutes. We are going to enjoy tonight, but back to business tomorrow. D Taylor Chorney, who played a career-high 55 regular-season games this season, saw his first playoff action in Orpik’s absence.
“I can tell you this about the Philadelphia player from coaching against him this year: He doesn’t seem like a player who is looking for those vicious hits and contact”, Trotz said via Philly. “Our forwards did a good job of boxing those guys out and getting to the blue paint and get in Holtby’s eyes”. I love playing in the playoffs. “I believe in myself and I like it”.
Brayden Schenn felt Gostisbehere’s opening tally gave the Flyers’ power play a much needed trait it had been lacking – confidence. “That was our goal”. We didn’t take any stupid penalties. The Flyers eventually brought out the stretcher and wheeled him off the ice late in the first period.
The offside coaches challenges have stolen the show this postseason, but their rarer cousin – the goaltender interference challenge – made an appearance in Brooklyn on Wednesday. Now the betting odds for the game have the Capitals favored to pick up the victory.

The Capitals got a goal from T.J. Oshie at 2:38 and, though they continued to create havoc around Neuvirth, could not score again.
