Flyers win to prevent a Capitals sweep
The Washington Capitals have their first 3-0 lead in the franchise’s post-season history in the seven game format.

Washington got to within 2-1 when T.J. Oshie scored on a rebound with 17 minutes, 22 seconds left.
For as much as he’s struggled at times, it is still really hard to put the blame on Mason for where this series has headed for the Flyers.
Shutdown defenseman Brooks Orpik was severely shaken up on a routine hit by Flyers forward White in Game Three.
The Flyers, all levels of their management and P.A.pro Lou Nolan all had to feel a lot better about this game than what took place Monday night in Game 3.
The better times began just 5:51 into the first period, during a Flyers power play. It’s just one of those plays.
All series it’s been the Capitals scoring power play goals – they were 5-for-9 in Game 3 alone – but the Flyers did well to stay out of the penalty box in Game 4 and finally score on a power play of their own in their first series win.
“If we wouldn’t be here, I don’t think he would have any problems getting in the collective and talking with the boys and anything like this”, Voracek said earlier this season.
That was it for the Capitals. The Caps, however, will be pumped to get this series finished on Friday night. Evgeny Kuznetsov pounced and pounded in the goal for a 3-1 lead on just 18 ss. “As a fellow goalie you never want to see that happen”. The Flyer was in on the forecheck when defenseman John Carlson went to hit him just as Laughton turned his body. Laughton stumbled and his head slammed into the back boards.
One of Philadelphia’s top young players, Laughton, 21, had appeared in 71 games this season and returned to the lineup when center Sean Couturier sustained a shoulder injury in Game 1 that knocked him out of the series.
There was no penalty called on the play.
“I thought we made it a really easy night for [Neuvirth] in the first two periods, and the third period, we came with the effort that we’re going to need to have for 60 minutes”, Washington coach Barry Trotz said.
Late Wednesday night, the Flyers said tests on Laughton were negative, but provided no more information. If Washington’s play during the prior three games is any indication, they should be right where they want to be. Braden Holtby has allowed four goals on 118 shots faced.
NEW YORK – Alex Petrovic scored the tiebreaking goal in the middle of the third period, and Florida went on to beat New York in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals at Barclays Center.
Teddy Purcell also scored for Florida, and Jaromir Jagr had an assist for his 200th career playoff point. Roberto Luongo made 26 saves in the win.
Washington pressed throughout the final 20 minutes and had the better run of play, and Oshie scored less than three minutes into the period. But it bought the Flyers more time to show what they never doubted their power play, and the rest of their units too, could provide. Their discipline was the biggest key coming into the do-or-die game.

The Penguins received word Wednesday morning that the NHL Department of Player Safety would not be pursuing a suspension for Letang, who was not penalized on the play.
