FM: Philippines is not leaving UN

“We are committed to the United Nations despite our numerous frustrations with this global agency”, Reuters quoted Yasay as saying.

Duterte’s anti-drug campaign is said to have claimed the lives of around 1,000 drug addicts and dealers since the president took office, and police have admitted responsibility for the deaths of almost 600 drug suspects since July.

De Lima is scheduled to open a Senate investigation on Monday on the extra-judicial killings related to the “war on drugs” by President Duterte.

“If you are that insulting, son of a bitch, we should just leave”, Duterte said at Davao City in a speech.

Duterte said he might as well form a rival organisation with China and other African nations and criticised UN for its failure to stamp out terrorism, world hunger and other conflicts. He said he may even look to set up another worldwide organisation.

“I would invite everybody. I do not read (about) anybody from that stupid body complaining about the stench there of death”, he said.

“He already ended up the press conference, as I observed, but the press was still needling him with a lot of questions so it was in this context that he made these statements”, Yasay said.

Just days earlier, United Nations experts called on Duterte and the Philippine government to put a stop to the killings of suspected criminals who haven’t had their day in court.

President Duterte has denied the government is responsible.

Calling the United Nations “stupid”, he told reporters he didn’t “give a sh*t about them”, and said it was interfering.

But national police chief Ronald Dela Rosa defended police, saying they had shot dead 712 drugs dealers after coming under fire since July 1 – the day after Mr Duterte took office. Duterte has repeatedly insisted police have only killed in self defense, while maintaining the other deaths are due to drug syndicates killing each other.

“You do not just go out and give ashitting statement against a country”, Duterte said.

Yasay said: “The President is understandably extremely disappointed and frustrated with this action of the special rapporteurs in arbitrarily concluding that these drug-related killings were done by or are at the instance of law enforcers”.

Duterte described the U.N.as inutile, and lashed out at US police killings of black men.
