Folks support local shops on Small Business Saturday

Across the USA today, small business areas are asking patrons to support them and do some holiday shopping.

Who’s Toy House Owner Somer Kingsbury says, “Small Business Saturday is really an opportunity for us to show what we provide for the customers”.

“You do know everyone and I think there’s that special attention you get from the owners when you walk in”, Mary Sullivan said, a volunteer for a local business Willow and friend of the owner.

When it comes to the bottom line and our seasonal economy, store owners said they rely on holiday shoppers.

Some store owners say they’ll continue their Small Business Saturday deals well into next week.

Having Santa on hand at the Mall Plaza certainly didn’t hurt attendance. But in between those shopping days is Small Business Saturday, designed nationwide to support small local businesses. Shoppers are offered incentives to go store-to-store and, once they finish their passport, they can win prizes.

The shop has local and global items, but they all have one thing in common: they’re pretty unique, and that’s these shoppers said they’re looking for something unique from a local store. Sometimes the hardest part about staying in business as a small business comes down the perseverance.

According to the American Independent Business Alliance, money spent at local small businesses generates 3.7 times more direct local economic benefit than spending at chain stores. “Any specialty giftshop in downtown Grand Junction, you can find someone that is very knowledgeable about the product they sell”.

“A local downtown has really interesting fun shops”, Jasmine Nelson said of Chicago.

“There’s a misnomer that the internet is cheaper, but it’s not necessarily cheaper it’s just more convenient”, explained Zeller.

The hashtag #ShopSmallShopLocal was trending on social media, helping small businesses go the extra mile to compete with big name retailers.
