Following 15-Hour Filibuster, Republicans Agree to Vote on Gun Control Measures
“The simple answer, Senator Donnelly, is that there is no catch, there is no secret agenda, there is no alternative story line”, Murphy said. And it looks like the effort worked.

This live video from NBC of the Senate floor ended as the filibuster ended.
“I’m going to remain on this floor until we get some signal, some sign that we can come together”, added the Senator of CT, where a 2012 school schooting left 20 children dead. John Cornyn, R-Texas, has put forward a bill that would instead place a 72-hour delay on anyone on terrorist watch lists from obtaining a firearm.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., acknowledged as much hours later, saying nothing will change as long as “Republicans continue to take their orders from the National Rifle Association”. Chris Murphy, Connecticut Democrat, said on CNN’s “New Day”.
On Wednesday Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein introduced a measure that would give the United States attorney general authority to block the sale of guns or explosives to known or suspected terrorists.
“Now we still have to get from here to there, but we did not have that commitment when we started today”, Murphy said in the wee hours Thursday on the Senate floor, 14 hours and 50 minutes after starting his speaking quest.
The Connecticut senator also explained why Democrats were responding so aggressively to the Orlando shooting, and defended against criticism that the tragedy was being politicized.
Murphy said that automatic weapons were created to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible.
Murphy is seeking a vote on legislation from Sen.
The Senate last voted on gun proposals in early December after San Bernardino, but none crossed the 60-vote threshold needed to advance. Chris Murphy, the filibuster included the combined work of dozens of his party colleagues including Cory Booker of New Jersey, Elizabeth Warren of MA and Richard J. Durbin of IL.
According to the Senate Democrats Twitter account, votes on background checks and closing the terror gap loophole will occur Monday around 5:30 pm.
Omar Mateen, the gunman in the Orlando shooting, had at one point been on a watch list of suspected terrorists but was taken off before the shooting.
Many Republicans oppose Feinstein’s bill as a violation of due process because innocent people sometimes end up on terror watch lists, so her bill would possibly deny people the right to purchase a firearm even if they are erroneously on the list.
Murphy held the floor for 15 hours.

It was not immediately clear if Democrats had the votes needed to push through the measure or any other potential gun legislation.
