The Foo Fighters have previously challenged the Westboro Church’s protests, notably so in 2011.

The popular band responded and “rickrolled” the religious organization in person by cramming into the back of a pickup truck and blasting Rick Astley’s 1987 single “Never Gonna Give You Up”. Fans crowded the truck, cheering on the band as they gave the church a dose of its own medicine.

The Foo Fighters have a little over a month left on their Sonic Highways World Tour run, as the band will wrap up in the U.S. on October 18 before heading over to play a string of dates in Europe.

Rickrolling refers to a popular internet meme using Astley’s music video as bait, which fooled people into watching it when they clicked on a link, according to the Independent.

The Topeka, Kansas, church is known for protesting funerals and other notable events, its members holding signs with inflammatory inscriptions such as “God hates fags”. In 2011, the Foo Fighters released an anti-WBC video of themselves dressed in redneck garb and singing an improvised country song called “Keep It Clean” in the church’s home state of Kansas.

“I don’t care if you’re black or white or purple or green, whether you’re Pennsylvanian or Transylvanian, Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum, men loving women and women loving men and men loving men and women loving women – you all know we like to watch that”.
