But Manning should do exactly that. The 39-year-old quarterback wasn’t great, either. His numbers were bad.

Now Miller has something the Newton does not – a Super Bowl championship. Regardless, his legacy stands tall.

He wasn’t the star – game MVP Miller seemingly was everywhere on every Carolina play – but Manning really hasn’t been the headliner in this injury-shortened season. He has plenty of time in the offseason to reminisce and look back.
Mike Remmers: Unable to slow Denver’s Miller, Remmers was emblematic of a Panthers offensive line that struggled to protect Newton, who took six of Carolina’s seven sacks in the game. That only showed up in flashes Sunday night as he steadily allowed himself to be overwhelmed by Denver’s defense.
Manning’s possible farewell game in Super Bowl 50 was a throwback to the 1970s when his father Archie was running away from dominant defenses such as the Steel Curtain and Doomsday.
Trevathan and the defense nearly completely bottled up Newton and the high-flying Panthers offense. Newton never quite knew what he was seeing in the way of blitzes or coverages. Some say that he will be a superstar in the NFL if James wanted to focus on football instead of basketball.

Peyton Manning completed 17 of 32 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns, more importantly, not making mistakes. But the plan worked well enough to complement a great defense.
