(Football) Wenger rails at Arsenal transfer focus

Arsene Wenger’s transfer activity has been recently lambasted with the Frenchman once again forced into a staunch defence of his actions on Saturday after calls from supporters to spend money after the 0-0 stalemate at Leicester.

“They are highly influenced by the media”, he said.

While Vieira believes that his old club play good football, he believes a lack of physical presence and personality is costing them in terms of silverware.

“That is why we also buy young centre-backs to develop, because when you have one or two of the quality to make it to the top it is fantastic because it is a position that is hard to find, especially at the big clubs”. Why do you say I’m reluctant, I don’t understand that? But spending the money in itself is not a quality.

Arsenal have made one significant signing, adding Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Moenchengladbach for 30 million pounds ($39.49 million).

Arsene Wenger has reassured anxious Arsenal fans he intends to spend before the transfer deadline.

“The reason behind it I don’t know but for me the flawless example is Ajax when you see all the old players who played for the team working for the club, working in the field, in the office, and the door is always open”.

“The club has 600 staff and we have a responsibility to them”. Then you must have the money available to pay. “We look and analyse absolutely everything and we have to make the right decisions”.

Wenger was criticised for not risking the France worldwide in the calamitous 4-3 defeat to Liverpool but his gamble at the King Power Stadium was rewarded with an outstanding performance. “You should be happy because he’s English”, he said.

“It is a bit surprising that we come out of a football match and we do not speak about the football, we speak about money”. On that front, I believe when you conceded four goals last week we have shown a great defensive performance. Wenger explained at his press conference on Friday morning that inflated prices made it hard for English teams to get any value.

Koscielny was part of the national side which lost 1-0 to Portugal and was not fit to play in last week’s 4-3 defeat to Liverpool but said it is natural for players to need more time to recover.
