For 10 years, possibly biggest pearl was hidden under bed

A 34-kilogramme pearl, believed to be the largest in the world, has been discovered on the island province of Palawan where the finder placed it under his bed for decades and would touch it whenever he went out fishing because he considered it his “lucky charm”.

According to the Reports, tourism officer Aileen Cynthia Amurao said the pearl was first discovered in 2006 by a fisherman of the Palawan Island.

The Puerto Princesa City would likely earn another prestigious title and a record breaker for having the WORLD’S.

The fisherman, his father and brothers found the irregular-shaped pearl inside a giant clam that stuck to their boat’s anchor when they sought refuge from a squall on a reef, Amurao said.

The monster pearl is now exhibited in New Green City Hall in Puerto Princesa and it has been drawing a lot of attention.

A Philippines fisherman claims to have found a 34kg natural pearl which would be the biggest pearl ever found if confirmed. The previous largest known natural pearl was the Pearl of Lao Tzu, also known as the Pearl of Allah, weighing 6.4 kg (14 lb), measuring 9 inches (24 cm) in diameter, and valued at an estimated $35 million.

“He didn’t know how much it was worth and kept it tucked away at home as a simple good luck charm”.

The enormous pearl is 1 foot wide, 2.2 feet long and weighs 75 lbs.

“He noticed that it was lodged on a shell and swam down to pull up the anchor, and also brought the shell with him”.

Maggay-Amurao told the Guardian that she was now seeking help from experts to certify the pearl’s authenticity.

The fisherman did not want to be identified, she added. “It is already displayed in city hall”.

“We were amazed when he brought it to us”, she said. The dimensions of the big pearl are 30cm (1 foot) width and 67cm (2.2 feet) in length. Despite the excitement and possible top records, it is still unknown how a gigantic pearl with that size has grown in a giant clam because after all, it is very rare for clams to grow pearls to begin with, Popular Science reports.
