For Democrats lulled into apathy by the uninspiring presidential election, President Barack Obama is offering himself as motivation.
Donald Trump is a nasty, hateful charlatan selling a false message to African-Americans and the rest of the country that puts everything President Barack Obama has done in office and stood for at risk, Obama said Saturday night, in a rip-roaring speech to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner in Washington.
“This should not be a close election but it will be, and the reason it will be is not because of Hillary’s flaws”, he said.
USA society is uncomfortable with powerful women and that is why the United States has not yet elected a woman president, President Barack Obama said on Sunday. “It is going to be hard to overcome those”.
“I couldn’t say that electing Mitt Romney would be an unmitigated disaster”.
Obama described Trump as someone who “shows no interest in even gaining the rudimentary knowledge required to make really hard decisions” and whose campaign has sought to exploit the country’s worst and most divisive impulses.
Finally, on Friday, the Republican nominee held an event at the new Trump hotel in Washington, D.C., where he spent time talking up the new facility, introducing a number of veterans who’ve endorsed him, and then said, “President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period”.
“It is an infomercial”.
In harsh rebuke of Trump, Obama referred to the businessman as “somebody who has fought against civil rights and fought against equality and who has shown no regard for working people most of his life”.
In town for this week’s United Nations General Assembly, Obama spoke to supporters at the Gramercy Park home of restaurateur Danny Meyer and his wife Audrey.
