Forbes 400 list reveiled, Bill Gates tops richest Americans for 22nd time
Trump ranked 121st on the list with a net worth of $4.5 billion, though he regularly says he’s worth $10 billon. Rising corporate values and real estate prices have provided the favorable tailwind that helped hundreds of billionaires add to their bottom lines, though the recent stock-market slump has trimmed the wealth totals a bit.

“Because the bar is so high, 145 USA billionaires missed the list (in 2015)”, said Forbes.
Bill Gates is the richest American for the 22nd year in a row, with a net worth of $76 billion.
James Cargill, 66, an heir to the Cargill food and agriculture company who lives in Birchwood, according to Forbes, was eighth in the state and 211th – up from 235th – nationally with net worth of $3 billion.
This year Forbes spent more time with Trump’s file than anyone else’s in the history of the Forbes 400, which lists the nation’s top billionaires.
Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry, 55, was the 358th-richest American, with a net worth of $1.9 billion. Meanwhile, Uber founder Travis Kalanick saw the largest percentage gains in worth in the past year. Warren Buffett, the head of conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway, ranked second with $62 billion, while former Oracle chief executive Larry Ellison is third with $47.5 billion.
The 51-year-old entrepreneur was this year’s “biggest gainer” as he climbed up with $16.5 billion.
Franklin businessman Dan Gilbert fell sharply in the ranking – to 149th richest American – compared to 117th past year.
The tycoon’s net worth has always been been debated, but came under intensified scrutiny after he announced his presidential ambitions earlier this year.
Two more New Jersey investing titans tied for No. 182, with a net worth of $3.4 billion apiece. Despite taking a hit of $5bn this year the tech legend is still worth $76bn.
Trump first made the Forbes 400 list in 1982, when he shared the position with his father Fred, the original Trump real-estate tycoon who made millions building apartments in Brooklyn and Queens before handing over the family business to his son.

There were 13 National Basketball Association team owners on the Forbes 400, the richest of them the Miami Heat’s Mickey Arison at US$7.7 billion, ranked 60 overall.
