‘Force Awakens’ pulls in record $57 million on opening night
“Star Wars” fans were out in full force Thursday night.

The new “Star Wars” film is the seventh installment in the series created by George Lucas in 1977.
The movie is opening three years after Disney paid $4.06 billion for Lucasfilm.
Forty-seven percent of Thursday’s domestic ticket sales came from 3D tickets, Disney said.
Through Friday, global ticket sales reached $US129.5 million, setting opening-day records in Britain, Germany, Brazil, Australia and other countries.
In a time where Marvel’s latest movie seems to always be the one smashing records, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is literally doubling what we’ve been seeing from Marvel in terms of box office and ticket sales.
Mediaite has decided to make the most of it with a new gallery identifying the Star Wars character counterparts of 23 prominent figures in broadcast and cable news today. “The extraordinary ticketing demand is truly unprecedented”.
The Thursday night record set in July 2011 for the release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”, which took in $43.5 million, has already been broken by “The Force Awakens”.
Carrie Fisher loved working with JJ Abrams on “Star Trek: The Force Awakens” because he is such a fan of the franchise.
That would set the all-time opening weekend record, besting the $208.8 million haul of “Jurassic World” earlier this year.
That strong word of mouth will help “The Force Awakens” attract the kind of repeat viewings that made James Cameron’s “Avatar” and “Titanic” the highest grossing films of all time.
Even though it runs more than 2 hours long, Kevin said the pacing was very fast. He actually watched the film with children whose family members had tragically lost their lives during the Iraq War. Rival studios had forecasted prior to the opening that “The Force Awakens” would open with at least $210 million.

“Clearly, this is not the most important thing that’s taking place in the White House today”, he joked.
