Ford Escape, 2013-’14 Ford Focus ST Recalled for Stalling Risk
This recall targets the engine wiring harness of certain Escape and Focus ST cars, which may not have enough compression on the wires in the loom. Other potential effects include the illumination of the engine malfunction light in the dash or hesitation on acceleration. This could cause the manifold absolute pressure sensor to send wrong signals to the powertrain control module which could end up stalling the engine. Around 160,000 vehicles were recalled starting October 2014 for a similar issue. 9017 cars are being recalled for repairs on a wiring defect, which will be carried out from January 4 onwards.

Thankfully for Ford, the recall is not really huge as it involves only 868 examples of the Explorer, Explorer Police Utility, Taurus, Taurus Police Interceptor, Flex, the Lincoln MKS and the Lincoln MKT. After receiving those notices, owners will be able to take their vehicles to Ford dealers, who will replace the existing crimped splices at no charge.
The investigation determined problems with the fuel delivery module that can crack inside the fuel tank. The crack can cause gas to leak and possibly cause a fire.

Owners with questions should call the automaker at 866-436-7332 and use recall number 13S04-S1.
