The next generation of Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine mates to the automaker’s equally-new 10-speed automatic gearbox, a transmission it developed with, of all automakers, arch rival General Motors. “This class-leading torque arrives with a transformative 10-speed automatic that improves almost every aspect of F-150 performance”. The new engine provides better low-end and peak engine performance, ideal for hauling heavy payloads and towing heavy trailers. Now, the Blue Oval company is back and this time with confirmation that the next F-150 will also be equipped with a brand new engine.

Among the upgrades to the engine include new turbochargers, a lighter turbine wheel (made out of the super alloy Mar-M-247) that delivers more boost, a lighter valvetrain, along with a new dual-direct and port fuel-injection system.

The Ford F-150 remains the first and only truck in its segment to offer a twin-turbo gasoline engine.
