Ford recalls 830K vehicles to fix faulty door latches
Affected nameplates include the 2012 – 2015 Ford Focus, 2013 – 2015 Ford Escape, 2013 – 2015 Ford C-Max, 2015 Ford Mustang, 2015 Lincoln MKC, and 2014 – 2016 Ford Transit Connect.

The issue surrounds the door latch of various cars, including Lincoln, Mustang and Focus models.
In the newly recalled vehicles, Ford said the pawl spring tab in the side-door latch could break, either preventing the door from latching or causing it to unlatch while driving.
The company said repairs will focus on Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Oregon and Washington because the door problems have been linked to warmer temperatures. Ford said there was one reported injury and one reported accident related to faulty side-door latches.
The recall will cost Ford about $270 million, and that figure will be included in the company’s third-quarter pretax results, Ford said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The approximately 828,053 vehicles affected include 766,682 in the United States and 61,371 in Mexico. If one of those vehicles has a broken door latch, the automaker will provide a one-time replacement for free, regardless of the vehicle’s age. You can check if your auto is due new door latches by using the recalls look-up by VIN feature on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
