“Clearly, the Prime Minister is trying a new tack to keep that momentum going”.
In the second of his tour, Modi made a day-long unannounced visit to Afghanistan, where he inaugurated the new building of the Afghan Parliament in Kabul built by India at a cost of Dollars 90 million in the presence of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
“Actually the High Commissioner was on the phone all the time coordinating the arrival and visit of the Prime Minister”.
“We also extend our congratulations to Pakistan prime minister for his vision and leadership in this pursuit of peace”, he said.
Modi’s stunning decision to drop in for talks with Pakistan’s leader, something ex-premier Manmohan Singh failed to achieve in ten years of power, was welcomed in India, where it was seen as a calculated personal gamble. He was saved the months of planning that usually go into a prime ministerial visit. Moreover, the personalised nature of the visit has reflected a warm association between Nawaz and Modi that has set an overall positive and encouraging tone for future exchanges between the neighbours. In this context, they also agreed to enhance bilateral contacts.
Lu said Pakistan and India were important countries in South Asia, and the improvement of their relationship would be significant to regional peace, stability and development. It appreciated Prime Minister Nawaz saying he has been an advocate of better ties with India.
“Now Modi is visiting Pakistan… this (the India-Pakistan relation) should have been discussed earlier”, Yechury told the media ahead of the five-day party plenum scheduled to begin on Sunday.
When Mr Modi said “I am coming right now”, Mr Sharif said, “Come, I will be there at the airport to receive you”.
The Pakistani foreign secretary said that during the brief meeting, the two PMs decided that the foreign secretaries will meet in mid-January. Under these circumstances, it may not be possible for its foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary to come here and not meet Hurriyat leaders. But when Modi took the initiative to hold talks, they are criticising.
Khan who welcomed the surprise visit of Modi to Lahore on Friday took to social micro-blogging website Twitter for a veiled swipe at the alleged involvement of an Indian businessman. He some sources indicated had come directly from New Delhi.
A close aide to Modi in India said U.S. officials always push for reviving India-Pakistan talks and external pressure was not a factor.

But even before Modi arrived in the eastern city of Lahore, relations between the nuclear-armed rivals had begun to thaw, with a resumption of dialogue already in the offing.
