Forget Bernie Sanders. Michelle Obama stole the show
Glenn Thrush, chief political correspondent at Politico, and Andrea Bernstein, senior editor for Politics & Policy for WNYC News, analyze last night’s speeches, with First Lady Michelle Obama‘s speech at the forefront.

In his speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night, Obama described Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, as so wildly different and out of the mainstream, that he wasn’t even a real Republican. However, this middle-aged white woman in her Cracker Barrel apron and plaid shirt was having none of that: “Did you see Michelle Obama’s speech? They can not be boiled down to 140 characters”.
When Michelle Obama uttered those words we immediately thought of Trump, because he is our omnipresent Twitter bully. However, in the midst of all of this, there was one name that people were buzzing about throughout the day: Michelle Obama. He says that he understands why Mrs. Obama would steal her material from Mrs. Obama, because she’s such a “tremendous and gifted speaker”. “Hillary has spent years doing the thankless, relentless work to actually make a difference in their lives”, she said, in a line stressing Clinton’s competence, praising her results-oriented pragmatism and offering an implied critique of the unrealistic ideological fuming Sanders calls an agenda. Obama used her residence in the White House since 2008 to show the progress of the country.
VH1 talks to Democratic Convention-goers about Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine. “America is already strong”, he continued, comparing Trump’s claims that he alone can fix things to the rhetoric of kings and dictators.
[Trump] calls himself a business guy, which is true, but I have to say, I know plenty of businessmen and women who’ve achieved success without leaving a trail of lawsuits, and unpaid workers, and people feeling like they got cheated. A woman who, regardless of the invective and hatred swirling around her husband and his administration, has remained one of the most statistically popular women in American politics. And that’s one reason why nearly every country on Earth sees America as stronger and more respected today than they did eight years ago. She was notably silent when Clinton clinched the nomination, letting the historic moment pass without comment.
“One of the dangers in an election like this is that people don’t take the challenge seriously. It will make us less safe”. Even Donald Trump knows with whom he can’t pick a fight.

Now it is Obama’s turn to paint someone as the “other”. And Biden said that Trump was the most ill prepared for facing, much less dealing with national security issues. She’s been a huge draw at fundraisers in elections past.
