Andy Murray kept his bid for a second Wimbledon title alive, the world number two crushing Taiwan’s Lu Yen-Hsun 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round on Thursday. But he’s already won two slams and made 10 finals.

Defending champion Serena Williams stuttered to a low-key and error-strewn 6-2 6-4 first-round victory over Swiss qualifier Amra Sadikovic yesterday.

It’s that time of year again, when the hopes of a nation rest squarely on the shoulders of British No. 1 Andy Murray at Wimbledon. One problem for aspiring young professionals is that many seasoned professionals play on the Challenger circuit, which is the middle tier, just below the main tour. “Yeah, I did. In any tournament it’s important, when you have a chance to win a match quickly, to do it”, he cited.

Lu famously defeated Murray at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the world number 76’s best Grand Slam performance came at Wimbledon when he made the quarter-finals six year ago.

The break proved to be a catalyst for the 29-year-old, whose shot-making suddenly became that much more crisp, finding success with a gorgeous drop shot and an equally well-executed lob on the following point. Now, if I don’t win the first match then it’s a disaster, ‘ he wrote.

“I think the longer the match went on, the more I focused on the tennis and stopped remembering where I was”.

Djokovic began his campaign with a 6-0 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 victory over Britain’s James Ward, who recovered well after losing the first nine games, while Federer will play Willis following his straight-sets win against Guido Pella.

In all there are seven British players in action on day two. There are hundreds of guys across the world that hit the ball pretty similar, it’s just what you do with it at what times.

“Look forward to it. But, I mean, it will be a bit unusual – it’s never happened before for me”.

“I feel comfortable playing on grass and I feel very strong in the last few weeks”.

No. 7 Gasquet swept past Britain’s Aljaz Bedene 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, while No. 12 Tsonga got past Spain’s Inigo Cervantes 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

With the possibility of that match going to four sets, it’s unlikely Murray will be out on Centre Court any earlier than 3pm.
