Dave Henderson, former major league outfielder and, more recently, a broadcaster for the Seattle Mariners, has passed away, per reports. He had received a kidney transplant about a month ago.
In recent years, Henderson has worked on the Seattle Mariners radio and TV broadcasts. While only finishing with a career. A career. 258 hitter, Hendu hit 197 home runs during his career while driving in over 700 runs.
He will go down in Red Sox lore as the man chiefly responsible for allowing the team to play in the 1986 World Series.
In 1986, as a member of the Boston Red Sox, he famously hit a two-out, game-tying home run off California Angels reliever Donnie Moore as the Angels were one strike from their first World Series berth. In 36 career postseason games, Henderson batted.298/.376/.570 with seven home runs. Henderson hit a mere. The Red Sox would eventually lose to the New York Mets in the World Series.
