Labor said Mr Abbott’s announcement demonstrated the Liberal Party was “totally obsessed with itself”.

Mr Abbott had previously said he wanted to take time off from politics to spend more time with his family.

Enough said… Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott is flying to the U.S. to speak to an ultraconservative group against abortion, same-sex marriage and wage equality.

Mr Abbott released a statement briefly confirming he would stand again for his electorate, Warringah, at the 2016 poll.

“Tony Abbott is absolutely no Kevin Rudd and therefore I believe those sorts of analogies aren’t appropriate in any way, shape or form”, Senator Abetz told the ABC on Monday morning.

He has held the seat on Sydney’s northern beaches for 22 years.

Ousted Australian prime minister Tony Abbott says he will seek another parliamentary term in this year’s elections – creating a potential rallying point for conservative lawmakers in the ruling Liberal Party and a headache for his successor, Mr Malcolm Turnbull.

“As hard as Malcolm Turnbull tries to get rid of Tony Abbott, he just can’t.

I have been heartened by the support and encouragement I’ve received to continue to serve the country as a member of parliament”, Mr Abbott wrote on his website.

Liberal senator and Abbott loyalist Eric Abetz dismissed the comparisons, telling the Australian Broadcasting Corp. that Mr Abbott was “no Kevin Rudd”.

‘Tony is a good man, ‘ Senator Williams told ABC radio. “He’s worse than the Terminator, he just keeps coming back”, a spokesman for Opposition Leader Bill Shorten told Fairfax.

Kevin Rudd returned to the prime ministership three years after he lost the leadership to Julia Gillard.

The move comes following speculation the former prime minister would fight for his seat.

“Everybody is going to speculate in the manner that they want to but the simple fact is that Tony Abbott has made a very significant contribution to Australia in a host of portfolios and in the leadership”.
