Metuh added that the choice of Sheriff souls be communicated to the party’s Board of Trustees and the National Executive Commitee (NEC) for ratification.
A source who spoke with the newspaper said the leadership of the party opted to bring an end to the chairmanship tussle by asking the North-east stakeholders to reduce the list of contenders to three.
The meeting of the caucus continued at the national headquarters of the party located at Zone 5, Abuja, on Tuesday morning and lasted till evening.
Some believed the choice of sheriff would not promote the party’s agenda of strengthening and galvanizing its membership.
He also admitted that the task ahead of the party is very challenging and vowed to rebuild “this party and carry everybody along and make sure PDP gets to victory in 2019”. He said he would not witch-hunt any of those opposed to his emergence promising that his main task would be to restore peace and unity to the party.
The appointment of Sheriff came as a reaction to the latest threat posed by the court case initiated by the former Presidential Political Adviser, Ahmed Gulak, which resulted in his self-declaration as chairman of the party.
Members of the Board of Trustees of the party are now meeting to discuss to either reject or accept the former governor as the party’s chairman.
The party did not state the criteria used in picking Sheriff.an ally of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He joined the PDP in 2014 after he fell out with the leadership of the newly formed APC. We are anxious that some persons are not thinking of the need to move the party forward. We were told that Modu Sheriff over the weekend expressed an interest. “We in the South East and South South are ready to leave the PDP”.
However, there are dissenting voices of what they term imposition of Sheriff.
