Former Colts, Oklahoma State kicker Cary Blanchard dies

Blanchard originally signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State back in 1992 and spent two seasons in New York before joining the Colts.

Mindi Blanchard, Cary’s ex-wife, confirmed his death saying she believes he died of a heart attack, per CBS New York. He was named to the Associated Press All-Pro first team after the 1996 season and provided the margin of victory with a field goal against the Chiefs in the divisional playoffs following the 1995 season as the Colts advanced to the AFC championship game.

Tragedy struck the Indianapolis Colts’ family on Tuesday as former All-Pro kicker Cary Blanchard suddenly passed away at just age 47. “You know if somebody would just give you a chance and stay with you, you can show what you can do”. Current Oklahoma State kicker Ben Grogan is fourth. His nine-year National Football League career also included time with the New Orleans Saints, Washington Redskinsand Arizona Cardinals.

Blanchard ranks in the top five at OSU in career scoring, extra points, extra points attempted, field goals, and field goals attempted.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Mindi Blanchard, his son, Blake and Blake’s wife, Tia, his daughter, Bayli and his son, Braeden.

Mindi said the funeral will take place Friday at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City.
