A successor to one of gaming’s most missed series is at last on the way.
Three Fields Entertainment, founded past year by former Criterion bosses Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, has teased a brand new Burnout game.
Following the news that Criterion Games have no plans to re-release classic Burnout games in an updated “HD Collection”, we’re now hearing from ex-Criterion developers who may have something Burnout-themed up their sleeves.
Taking to Twitter last night, Three Fields revealed that its first game, a multiplayer sports game, would arrive in spring 2016.
Very little was known about the sort of games they’re going to be working on, until today. Traffic. And Crashing. Lots and lots of crashing.

Given the choices on offer it seems like it won’t be based on the fifth game, Burnout Paradise, and so presumably won’t have an open world either. “We’ve moved on to newer, even better things!” It’s the third entry, Burnout 3: Takedown, that’s widely regarded as the high point. Fans will surely be ready to welcome a spiritual successor to the franchise with such a long gap since the last release, then.
