Former drug executive Martin Shkreli calls fraud allegations ‘baseless’
“For me and many entrepreneurs, it more goes back to the high school than the university”, Shkreli told CNNMoney in March. “His plots were only by efforts to hide the fraud, which led him to operate his companies…as a Ponzi scheme”, said a statement from the US Justice Department.

Shkreli has resigned as the head of one of the companies he now runs, Turing Pharmaceuticals, on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.
If convicted, Shkreli would face a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment.
Some complaints about his management were oddly personal: An ex-employee at one of his hedge funds has said in civil court papers that Shkreli sent his wife and sons such messages as: “I hope to see you and your four children homeless and will do whatever I can to assure this”.
“(He) also strongly denies the charges regarding the MSMB entities, which involve complex accounting matters that the EDNY and SEC fail to understand”, the representative added.
His lawyer Evan Greebel is charged with wire fraud conspiracy for his role in the Retrophin scheme.
Speaking of the Middle East: “Israel and Turkey have reached a preliminary agreement to begin restoring full diplomatic relations after years of deep freeze, Israeli officials said on Thursday”.
Shkreli entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $5 million bond, according to the Associated Press.
Shkreli told the New York Times before his arrest that he had given away more than $3 million, and he has used philanthropy to rebut people who call him selfish. Marin has secured a bail in the sum of $5 million and tweeted that he was back home and thanked his supporters. He appeared relaxed, smiling at what appeared to be family members in the courtroom.
Though if it turns out this isn’t a hack, fans of the Wu-Tang Clan might want to give Shkreli a retweet. Shkreli did not answer any questions.
Shkreli, 32, rose to infamy earlier this year after he, as founder and CEO of Turing, bought rights to toxoplasmosis drug Daraprim and promptly raised the price from US$13.50 a tablet to US$750.
Shkreli said the company would cut the drug’s price.
Big price increases are just business, Shkreli has said.
Shares of KaloBios fell 53 percent to $11.03 in premarket trade before being halted.
Prior to his Twitter message, Shkreli’s spokesman Craig Stevens said the biotech executive expects to be “fully vindicated from all the charges filed against him”. A spokeswoman for prosecutors declined to comment.
