Donovan McNabb tweeted Thursday: “Prayers and blessing go out to a former teammate of mine Kevin Turner, unfortunately he passed away. He was ready to go to Heaven, excited he said, Love y’all and God Bless”.

According to his foundation’s website, Turner was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his death.

Turner played in college at Alabama and was a third-round selection by the Patriots in 1992. He was an active figure in ALS research, starting a foundation to raise money for the cause, and also looking for links between CTE, ALS, and football-related head trauma. “I don’t know to what extent, and I may not ever know”. “But let’s face it and be honest: I feel like the National Football League has, over the past couple decades, at least until ’08 or ’09, kind of turned a blind eye to the seriousness of not only concussions but sub-concussive hits and the cumulative effects of those, and how these retired players are having so much difficulty getting along in their daily lives”. They seem to be linebackers, fullbacks, strong safeties.

“But it could have been avoided, I believe, by just being smarter about it. When you have had a concussion or you are seeing stars and hearing ringing in your head, you’ve got to report it to the trainers or the medical staff, and you need to take a break”. He leaves behind his wife, Allison, and three children, Nolan, 18, Natalie, 15 and Cole, 12, as well as his parents, Raymond and Myra, Turner and other family members. “This is what happens.’ Of course, I would stop playing immediately”, Turner said.
