Former GOP Candidate Ted Cruz Draws Boos For Not Endorsing Donald Trump

Donald Trump is set to give his much-hyped speech accepting the Republican nomination for president tonight at the RNC in Cleveland. He just admitted it.

“I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father”, he told a meeting of the Texas delegation in Cleveland. “That pledge was not a blanket commitment that if you attack and slander Heidi, I’m going to come along like a servile puppy dog”.

Donald Trump painted a dark picture of America during his nomination speech at the GOP Convention, NBC News reported.

POLL: Was Cruz Wrong Not to Endorse Trump? “Who would’ve believed that when we started this journey on June 16th last year, we, and I say we, because we are a team, would have received nearly 14 million votes, the most in the history of the republican party and that the republican party would get 60% more votes than it received 8 years ago, who would’ve believed this, who would’ve believed this”, Trump said. And as soon as he did, the crowd turned on him. It was a scene.

Two vanquished Republican presidential hopefuls, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Florida Sen. Ted Cruz took the stage and refused to endorse her father. “The standard that I apply is, which candidate do I trust to defend the Constitution?” said Cruz. “If there’s a campaign running around calling [Kasich] an embarrassment…one of those consequences might be that some of the people who wanted to participate in the campaign don’t want to anymore”.

Tensions and anticipation were at their peak on the fourth and final night of the 2016 Republican National Convention – after debacles, flubs and mixed messages that started this year’s conservative celebration.

But that’s not what Cruz meant – at all. Expectations for the bombastic billionaire are low, following a week of distractions and intra-party tension at the Republican National Convention, but that’s not an very bad thing for the GOP nominee.

“We will stop it”, Trump said.

Trump allies told The Hill they are plotting to challenge Cruz in the primary when his first term is up in 2018.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a close Trump adviser who was also a presidential rival, criticised Cruz’s address. He’s acknowledging that he hasn’t forgiven Trump for the sins of the primary.

The line seems more likely to have come from Democrat Hillary Clinton, who has positioned the gender wage gap and paid family leave at the center of her run for the White House. For all of the complaints about Cruz’s behavior, there must also be criticism of the Trump team for allowing this to happen.

The gold podium was brought out to the stage before Ivanka Trump walked out to “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles to introduce her father.

Cruz was booed at the end of his remarks Wednesday when it became clear he would not endorse the nominee. “And you have to put all of those things together”. On Day 1, anti-Trump delegates caused a commotion when they tried to force a roll call vote to try to unbind delegates. “The party is definitely more unified – there are a number of Cruz delegates who were on the floor today … who disagree with what Mr Cruz said”, Manafort said. But this was Cruz getting his long-delayed revenge.

Some will read the backlash as the party turning on Cruz – something that might not help him politically going forward. And at least he’s got that.
