His daughter, Megan, had a crowdfunding site until December 22, 2015 to “help Dan Haggerty fight his battle with cancer”. She had raised about $10,500 toward a goal of $100,000.
Haggerty starred in the 1977 hit TV show “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams” as the lovable mountain man whose BFF was a grizzly bear. The character was based on a real-life Californian trapper from the 1980s.
As well as his most famous role, Haggerty also guest starred on several TV shows including CHiPs and Charlie’s Angels, enjoying a career in film and television which continued until 2013.
Our hearts go out to Haggerty’s loved ones at this tragic time.
According to sources close to the Haggerty’s family, doctors discovered the cancer after he had surgery for back pain.
But in 1985, Haggerty was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years’ probation for selling cocaine to two undercover police officers.
