Former Lok Sabha speaker Balram Jakhar passes away
In his condolence message, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar described Jakhar as a prominent leader, an efficient administrator and a social worker.

As Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Dr. Jakhar was instrumental in automation and computerisation of Parliamentary records and establishment of the Parliament Museum.
Former Union minister’s body has now been taken to Abohat in Punjab and his final rites which will be performed tomorrow as confirmed by his son and former Congress Legislature Party leader of Punjab Sunil Jakhar. Dr Jakhar died at his residence in the national Capital at 0700 hrs today.
He made a distinctive contribution to the development of the Parliament library, reference, documentation and information service for the knowledge and use of Members of Parliament.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar said that with Jakhar’s demise, the country has lost a “great parliamentarian”.
“His demise is a great loss to the Nation and the void that will be created by his death, would be hard to fill”, Gogoi said.

She said Jakhar was a very encouraging person. “Such leaders are remembered for their positive qualities”.
