Former Miami Police Chief John Timoney dies of cancer at 68
Former Miami Police Chief John Timoney has passed away, according to the president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police.

Mike Chitwood Jr., a former Philadelphia Police officer and longtime friend of Timoney’s, said Timoney had been fighting stage 4 lung cancer since June. The Philadelphia Police Department shared its condolences Wednesday from its Twitter account. After spending four years as the Commissioner for the Philadelphia Police Department, Timoney spent a year in private security before being named the chief of the Miami Police Department.
He served as chief from 2003 to 2009. Stay with Action News and 6abc.com for more information as it becomes available.
