Former New York City Mayor Bloomberg to endorse Hillary Clinton
Bloomberg has been sharply critical of Trump, and in particular of his fellow New Yorker’s inflammatory rhetoric on immigration.

Ex-NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg is set to give a prime-time speech and endorse the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee at this week’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia – just a week after former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani addressed the Republican convention in a fiery speech to lend his support to GOP nominee Donald Trump.
Bloomberg – who was a Democrat prior to his initial mayoral run in 2001 when he became a Republican, and then became an independent in 2007 – will explain his support for Clinton “from the perspective of a business leader and an independent”, Howard Wolfson, a senior adviser to Bloomberg, told The Times.
Bloomberg has also blasted the Republican nominee for running the most “divisive and demagogic presidential campaign that I can remember, preying on people’s prejudices and fears”.
Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director, praised the media magnate as someone who would bring to the convention “a unique and important voice that lays out the choice in this election”.
Bloomberg’s plans were first reported by The New York Times. “Attacking and promising to deport millions of Mexicans, feigning ignorance of white supremacists, and threatening China and Japan with a trade war are all dangerously wrong, too. The end result would be to embolden our enemies, threaten the security of our allies, and put our own men and women in uniform at greater risk”.
The Clinton campaign has welcomed the news.
Bloomberg has not been a member of the Democratic park since 2000.
