Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer Involved in Alleged Assault Case
Attorney Adam Kaufmann said the allegations concerned a woman Spitzer has known “for a period of time”. She summarized the circumstances of the alleged crime: “Spitzer and a woman in her mid-twenties entered New York’s iconic Plaza Hotel, and headed up to one of the rooms”.

A 25-year-old Russian woman accused Eliot Spitzer of assaulting her at a hotel on Saturday.
She told them Spitzer was involved, but that she didn’t want to press charges and was released, sources said.
A lawyer for former Gov. Eliot Spitzer says no hotel room assault occurred, and that Spitzer was trying to help an emotionally troubled woman. She sustained a small cut to the top of her wrist during the commotion, which prompted hotel officials to call police.
Spitzer, through a spokeswoman, denies the allegation. The police department issued a statement confirming that detectives were investigating the case. She said they had argued over her leaving for Russian Federation and he assaulted her, and then she broke a glass and cut her arm, the officials said. “And I had and have deep affection for Lis”. Spitzer showed up at the hospital shortly after, hiding his face with a hat. He was also dating Democratic strategist Lis Smith for the past two years.
The woman claims that the verbal argument then turned violent, with Spitzer allegedly pushing her and then putting his hands around her neck.
Spitzer, a Democrat, earned the nickname “The Sheriff of Wall Street” during an eight-year tenure as state Attorney General that featured lawsuits and investigations that targeted corporate malfeasance.
The NYPD said, “The victim has indicated that the subject is Eliot Spitzer”. He attempted to resurrect his political career in 2013, but lost a race for city comptroller.
Upon arriving, Spitzer – who resigned his post in 2008 amid a prostitution scandal – initially told police there was no problem and sent the police away.

Spitzer has most recently been linked to public relations executive Liz Smith, who once served as Mayor Bill de Blasio’s spokeswoman. He was named as a prostitution ring patron during a federal investigation but wasn’t charged.
