Former New England Patriots and University of Florida star Aaron Hernandez has beefed up his legal team by hiring the lawyer who got an acquittal for Casey Anthony.

Jose Baez, who represented Casey Anthony when she was acquitted of murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, is heading the team, which will include Harvard Law professor Ronald S. Sullivan and Alex Spiro, who represented National Basketball Association player Thabo Sefolosha in his legal battle with NY police.
Hernandez, 26, was a star tight end with a $41 million contract when he was arrested in June 2013 and charged with murdering Odin Lloyd at an industrial park near his suburban Boston home. “I have fully committed myself to ensuring a fair and just trial for Mr. Hernandez”.
Baez represented Anthony in 2011 when she was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. Baez is best known for representing Casey Anthony. He is serving a life sentence for that crime.
“I can now confirm that my firm has been retained to represent Mr. Aaron Hernandez in his upcoming trial”, Baez said in a statement. He’s awaiting trial for a 2012 double murder in Boston and has pleaded not guilty.
