Former NFL Player Tim Tebow Signs Contract With the New York Mets

The Mets announced early on Thursday that they had signed Tebow to a minor-league deal, turning Tebow’s dream of transitioning to a career in baseball to a reality.

Tebow played last in baseball in 2005. The ViceSports reporter in attendance also wrote “And let’s be clear: Tim Tebow is not a baseball player”.

The New York Mets have signed Tebow to a minor league contract, where he will report to their Instructional League team in Port St. Lucie. Tim was an all-star baseball player in high school at Nease High School in Florida, where hit had a batting average of.494.

Tebow attracted 28 of MLB’s 30 teams – only the Chicago Cubs and the Oakland Athletics did not attend – to his Southern California workout.

Tebow hasn’t played organized baseball since high school but has been working out with the former Yankees and Diamondbacks catcher Chad Moeller since May. Aside from the age (29), this is a classic player-development opportunity for us.

“While I and the organization are mindful of the novel nature of this situation, this decision was strictly driven by baseball”, Alderson said.

Tebow, 29, played football collegiately at the University of Florida, wining the Heisman as a sophomore, and leading the Gators to a national championship in 2008. Tebow will fulfill his commitment to ESPN’s SEC Network during that period, drawing him away from the facility one to two days a week.

He was selected in 2010 NFL Draft during the first round by Denver and helped lead the Broncos to the 2011 AFC West division title.

Tebow has learned to shut them out, and now he has a franchise alongside him to do the same. And then the pursuit of it is to give everything you have and be the best you can.

“I believe Tim has a big heart and he’s a good person”, said former Broncos and Jets teammate Eric Decker.

“Part of it was because of this layoff”, Alderson said of the uneven performance. He was with the New England Patriots in 2013 preseason and Philadelphia Eagles in the 2015 preseason.
