Former NFL QB Tebow eyes baseball career with Mets deal

Tebow received a $100,000 bonus in the deal, according to the Associated Press.

The reviews on Tebow’s baseball prospects were mixed, with some scouts saying he was “terrible” to others saying he has “a real shot”.

Tebow hasn’t played organized ball since 2005, so he’s 6,000 at-bats and hundreds of hours of backfield development time behind the curve. He also showed hitting ability with a series of line drives and long homers during batting practice.

Alderson: “Everyone will point to reasons why (Tebow) can’t make it”. But look – I understand this is not a typical situation.

Tebow and Mets GM Sandy Alderson are holding a conference call with reporters Thursday at 11:30 A.M.

Tebow might be wearing a Mets uniform soon.

Alderson replied that that was not the case, although that will not quiet speculation that it is.

The 29-year-old, who led the University of Florida to two national titles and won the 2007 Heisman Trophy, has not played competitive baseball since high school.

It is possible that the Mets could sent Tebow to the Arizona Fall League, as the Mets now have one spot to fill, but that spot will more than likely belong to a pitcher, according to Jon Morosi.

When asked how he will measure the success of his baseball pursuits, he responded, “I would consider success giving everything I have”. “Then again, I don’t have to listen to what everybody else says”. “But I’m looking forward to putting in the work and I felt like this was the best fit”.

He started training three months ago at a baseball school in Arizona run by former big league catcher Chad Moeller.

Tebow’s baseball game needs a lot of work, which is why the Mets are sending him to the instructional league, but he’s not going to be there every day. “I just get to go pursue my passion”.

Tebow becomes the latest star from one sport to try to translate his athleticism to another. After all, Jordan got himself a contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1994 and moved straight to Double-A-no “instruction” necessary. What you won’t remember him as is a pro or amateur baseball player of any kind, because he hasn’t played baseball for 12 years.

The Mets did not guarantee an invitation to major-league spring training in 2017 and are permitting Tebow to fulfill his employment obligation as a studio host with SEC Network.

Tebow initially worked for ESPN and the SEC Network as an analyst in 2014, and then he resumed his duties not long after he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles in September of past year.
