Former No. 1 overall pick Jake Long works out for Falcons

Long, 30, already visited with the Giants within the spring, a get-together that was principally about feeling one another out and checking on Long’s well being (he’s had two ACLs within the final two seasons).

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reported Long will not sign with the Giants on Wednesday, but will travel to Denver to meet with the Broncos instead.

If the Broncos aren’t completely confident with the o-line candidates available, Long could provide competition and instantly become the front-runner to win the starting left tackle job, allowing the team to place Sambrailo, Harris, or someone else at right tackle.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) – The Denver Broncos want to see if former No. 1 draft pick Jake Long is healthy enough to bolster their offensive line to protect 39-year-old Peyton Manning.

The Giants are taking a second look at a former first overall pick. With Clady’s season ending injury, guard Louis Vasquez will be the only starter from last season returning in 2015. Unfortunately, that’s not an ideal situation for Big Blue and exactly why it shouldn’t come as any sort of surprise if/when they do eventually sign another free agent offensive lineman. Long was about to enter the third year of a four-year, $36 million contract with the Rams when he was released.

Jake is a 4x Pro Bowler (2008-11) and earned a All-Pro nod in 2010 while playing for the Miami Dolphins.

Long tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in October, the second time he injured the ligament in less than a year.
