He was also convicted of forcible oral sodomy, sexual battery, procuring lewd exhibition and second-degree rape.

Crump thanked the jury for taking the case seriously and deliberating over the evidence. Sentencing is set for January 21.

Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater said after the verdict that Holtzclaw’s attorneys were responsible for eliminating black jurors from the case and ensuring the case was heard by an all-white jury.

He also said the not guilty verdicts involving five victims does not mean the jurors didn’t believe those women.

As another accuser put it, according to the Oklahoman, “I didn’t think anyone would believe me”.
For the most part, these women were said to have prior criminal issues like warrants and drug offenses which Holtzclaw used to intimidate, exploit, and abuse them.
Holtzclaw was a former college football star who attempted a career in the NFL before turning to law enforcement.
Holtzclaw’s lawyer insisted his client had been attempting to help the drug addicts and prostitutes he encountered in his work. Hunt testified that Holtzclaw never made her feel uncomfortable and described his sex drive as “normal for someone his age”.
She testified that Holtzclaw then exposed his penis through his fly and raped her.
The woman was tearful after the verdict and prayed with supporters outside the courtroom.
The case had racial overtones, and attracted the interest of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The jury was all-white, composed of eight men and four women.
After one woman accused Holtzclaw of forcing her to perform oral sex, police identified 12 other women who said the officer had victimized them. Deliberations had stretched on for days in the trial, which began in November in Oklahoma City. Holtzclaw was sacked from the department after allegations surfaced in 2014, which led to an internal investigation. Holtzclaw was not included in that count because he has not yet lost his license. Not every state has a process for banning problem officers and those that do have great variations in whether officers are prosecuted.

Holtzclaw’s reign of terror came to an end after a 57-year-old grandmother he assaulted in June of 2014 bravely reported him to the very same police force that employed him.
