American broadcaster NBC quoted Mr Carter as saying: “Went for an MRI this past week and they (doctors) didn’t find any cancer at all in the brain”. I have watched my own family members undergo cancer treatment, and each time it is a heartbreaking experience.

“Our prayers have been answered”, Stuckey, also a close friend of the Carters, said.

“So a lot of people prayed for me, and I appreciate that”, he continued, as Carter was met with a loud applause.

The former president cut back on the globetrotting personal diplomacy, peacemaking, election monitoring and pioneering public health work with which he has redefined the role of presidents once they leave office.

“I feel good. I haven’t felt any weakness or debility”, Carter said after breaking the news, adding he said he plans to carry on teaching Sunday school and hopes doctors will allow him to travel to Nepal with Habitat for Humanity. Carter, his wife Rosalynn, his children, and the country are relieved about the good news.

In August, Carter mentioned that he had begun to receive pembrolizumab, better known as Keytruda, which was approved past year by the Food and Drug Administration for patients with advanced melanoma who have exhausted other therapies. “He’s not going to stop doing the treatment, but at this point, there’s no cancer”. Today, Carter announced that his most recent scans were clear of cancer.

The Carter Center said in a statement then that Carter’s “original problem is responding well to treatment”.

Carter, who served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981, announced his illness in August. “But now I feel that, you know, it’s in the hands of God and my worship, and I’ll be prepared for anything that comes”. The response on the Fox News Facebook page was much different, as one member commented, “Jimmy Carter is cancer of the brain!”

The other concern is that Carter’s cancer has already spread from the brain to the liver.
