“I hope it’s not because she’s a woman”. “I will spend the rest of my life making this right”. According to the Baltimore Sun, Shattuck must also undergo a mental health evaluation.

She was seen praying beforehand, and fell to her knees, wept and apologized after her sentencing.

Prosecutors say Shattuck began a flirtation with her son’s friend in Instagram posts and the two had several encounters where they made out in parking lots, culminating with a sexual encounter at a rented house in Bethany Beach last Labor Day weekend. She is prohibited from being around anyone under the age of 18, with the exception of her own children.

Judge E. Scott Bradley handed down the sentence Friday morning in Superior Court at the Sussex County Courthouse in Georegetown. “She stole his innocence”, said the victim’s mother, adding that her son has become somber and untrusting of others.

“It was a pretty devastating blow to her psyche”, he said. “Please hold her accountable”.

The victim’s father called Shattuck, “calculating like any predator”. He said the worst he anxious about at the time was the kids sneaking out.

“I never, ever meant to hurt anyone”, she said.

Donahue asked Bradley to have Shattuck incarcerated. The judge sentenced Shattuck to 15 years in prison – the maximum sentence for the charges – with all but two years suspended.

The businessman was able to obtain a divorce faster than is normally possible in Maryland, 11 News reported, as it typically takes at least three months for uncontested proceedings. Afterwards, Shattuck will serve two years of probation.

Shattuck, 48, will have to register as a sex offender after admitting to having sex with a 15-year-old boy last September. Before the hearing, Shattuck could be seen praying.
