Former Sen. Bayh says he’ll seek Indiana Senate seat again

Until Evan Bayh or his surrogates explain what made him decide to run for his old U.S. Senate seat from IN, the media will try to do it for him. Republican Dan Coats went on to win the Senate seat, 12 years after he opted not to seek re-election to the Senate and paved the way for Bayh’s election.

Young’s campaign immediately responded to Hill’s withdrawal under the assumption Bayh will be the fall opponent.

“After he cast the deciding vote for Obamacare, Evan Bayh left IN families to fend for themselves so he could cash-IN with insurance companies and influence peddlers as a gold-plated lobbyist”, Young’s campaign manager Trevor Foughty told THE WEEKLY STANDARD. C-SPAN carried the event, which took place at a time when pundits were suggesting that Bayh would be a top contender for the 2008 Democrat presidential nomination. The former senator and IN governor has been out of public office since 2010. “Hoosier families deserve more and I’ve made a decision to run to take their cause to the U.S. Senate”, Bayh said in a statement. Now, I see their future – and all of Indiana’s future – put at risk by a broken political system. He and his family are well-known in a state that is now considered reliably Republican, although Barack Obama won in in 2008. “My passion for service to our fellow citizens is undiminished, but my desire to do so by serving in Congress has waned”. Indiana Democrats look forward to having a commonsense leader who will work with Sen. “It’s going to be good for the country, good for IN to have him back”, Reid said Monday.

In the game of chess that Democrats and Republicans play, even if Bayh can’t win his old seat back, his candidacy would force Republicans to spend money in a state they had no plans to invest in.

The committee’s 33 voting members are elected and appointed officers, district chairs and vice chairs, elected national committee members and national committee members from Indiana, two representatives of the Indiana Young Democrats and one representative of each recognized caucus, according to the rules of the Indiana Democratic Party.

An Indiana Republican observed Monday that Bayh’s aversion seems to have lasted into this year.

Republicans also distributed research showing Bayh, a partner at the McGuireWoods law firm in Washington, D.C., bought a $2.9 million Georgetown town house past year and an oceanfront Florida condo for $3.9 million in 2013.
