Former Senator Defends Iran Deal

The Republican-controlled Congress has until mid-September to approve or reject the Iran nuclear deal.

Reps. Nita Lowey and Steve Israel, both of New York, and Ted Deutch of Florida announced their opposition on Tuesday afternoon.

And we’re going to force them to do what we want them to do – Even though they agreed to the deal we came to?

The White House along with those against the nuclear deal is going through heavy lobbying. What they should have said is: President Obama signed legislation that gives Congress a voice on any deal with Iran. He was concerned about provisions for the P5+1 nations to re-impose sanctions if Iran didn’t hold up its end of the bargain.

Republicans are nearly universally opposed at this point.

He said last week that opponents of the deal will unleash “tens of millions of dollars of advertising” against it, warning: “And if the rhetoric in these ads, and the accompanying commentary, sounds familiar, it should – for numerous same people who argued for the war in Iraq are now making the case against the Iran nuclear deal”. Ben Cardin, ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, indicated to The Washington Post that he would wait until after Labor Day to declare a position.

Engel, pointing to Iran’s support of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Assad regime in Syria, and the rebels in Yemen, asked, “Can you imagine how much more destructive that they can be if they are awash in cash?”

“I’m confident that the monitoring is the strictest we’ve ever seen in a nuclear deal and we have the realistic ability to “snap back” sanctions“.

The U.S. wasn’t negotiating only with Iran for the past several years, but also with Russian Federation, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

Brown said it is critical to keep Iran from developing or acquiring a nuclear weapon. Frustrated as he may be by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lapses in diplomacy, the president should know better than to dish up the kind of rhetoric that the crazies feed on.

President Obama’s demand that Iran dismantle its thousands of centrifuges: dropped.

Overall 18 senators, all caucusing with the Democrats, back the deal.

A group of House Democrats is pouncing on a recent classified intelligence assessment in which the U.S. spy community said it will be able to tell whether Iran is cheating on the nuclear deal, citing it as further evidence for why Congress should support the agreement.

Most importantly, Secure America Now has identified four Senators that are undecided, but leaning towards supporting the deal. The choice is that stark. And if you are a Democrat who opposes the agreement, you are also risking your political career. “Too many issues I have long raised as essential to any nuclear deal with Iran are not adequately addressed in this agreement“, he wrote. And Schumer has always been one of Israel’s greatest advocates.

“I think it would be very risky because then it allows Iran – which before the agreement was two to three months away from a nuclear weapon – to go full speed ahead”, Welch said.
