Scott Weiland, the former frontman for the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, died on December 3 at the age of 48. A message confirming his death also appeared on his Instagram account.
“At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected”, the statement says.
Weilang has been battling substance abuse for years which may have been his cause of death but it’s still unsure at this moment.
A number of musicians have paid tribute to the singer on social media, including former band mate- Dave Kushner of Velvet Revolver, Alice Cooper, Nikki Sixx (bassist of MÖTLEY CRÜE), and Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides, amongst others.
Scott Weiland, the provocative and soulful singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died.
The Stone Temple Pilots eventually reunited in 2008.
“Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died”, guitarist Dave Navarro added on Twitter.
Sad to hear about Scott Weiland passing.
It happened again in 1994 with “Interstate Love Song”, “Vasoline”, and “Big Empty” off their second album, “Purple”. “I think that this is a rock band that put out a rock album that STP fans will still really be into”.
Weiland had several arrests related to his drug and alcohol use, AP reports, including an arrest in 1995 for crack and heroin possession.
He is also survived by two children, Noah, 15, and Lucy, 13, from his ex-wife, model Mary Forsberg. But in recent years, Weiland insisted he was drug free; earlier this year, he released a public statement directed at Filter frontman Richard Patrick in which Weiland said, “I haven’t had a needle in my arm in thirteen years”.

Stone Temple Pilots, made up of Weiland along with two brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo, were part of the alt-rock vanguard, releasing the album “Core” in 1992, which generated a string of hits, including “Creep”.
