Former Titan Cook, two others cut by Rams

IRVING, Texas – Randy Gregory, the Dallas defensive end who failed a marijuana test at the NFL combine a year ago and slid to the second round in the draft, will miss the first four games next season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

EARTH CITY, Mo. – Always one to look at the bright side of even the worst situation – something he had plenty of practice doing playing for the Rams the past seven years – linebacker James Laurinaitis was already looking ahead to his next destination just hours after the only National Football League team he’d ever known released him Friday.

The Rams got an earlier start than expected to free agency, and it came at the expense of three popular veteran players.

“Jared made an immediate impact when he joined the team in 2013”, Fisher said in the statement.

In their time in St. Louis, Laurinaitis ended by being the leading tackler in franchise history and Long ended 4th on the franchise sack list.

Cutting Long saved Los Angeles about $14 million in cap charges. This move will save the Rams around $23 million in cap space and will only have to pay a combined total of $5 million in dead money. As the Rams’ defensive end, Chris Long, the son of Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long, started 95 games, with another 19 appearances, in eight years.

“Since he was drafted in the first round in 2005, Heath has been an awesome player on the field and an outstanding contributor in our community”, Steelers president Art Rooney II said. “No excuses, the last two years have been (expletive)”. They would love to be able to pair James Laurinaitis with Navarro Bowman, who recovered from a torn ACL injury to become an All Pro player again. His 671 yards in 2013 set a Rams single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end.

Long, 30, was the second player taken in the 2008 draft. Foles’ two-year deal, which he signed last year after his trade to the Rams, carries an million dead cap penalty. Certainly I know the last few years I have been injured and the production is way down. He wasn’t risky on offense, amassing 451 yards on 39 catches and scoring no touchdowns.

Long assessed his play quite honestly in his farewell Twitter post (make sure to click on the photo to read his… savory choice of words).

Chris Long was released by the Rams today making the soon-to-be 31 year old available via the free agency period
