Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Dies at 46

On Wednesday, his family said that mourners will be able to pay their respects at City Hall next Monday and Tuesday.

Ford, 46, died in hospital with his family by his side after a long battle with a rare and aggressive type of cancer. The hope is that the family can create a montage that will be shown at the Congress Centre gathering.

“Councillor Ford’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the thousands of messages of support they have received from around the world”, the statement said.

In recent days, amid reports of Ford’s worsening health, more than 6,400 people shared their thoughts and prayers for Ford’s recovery on a website set up by his family.

“I remember this man who was, at one and the same time, very true to himself and true to his principles but also very gregarious”, Tory said in a news conference. Ford also implemented cost cutting measures for the taxpayer, including the abolition of a vehicle registration tax.

Since Ford’s death was announced, a growing memorial has sprung up at Douglas B. Ford Park, which is named for his late father.
