Richard Alden, 52, who is originally from Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, has appeared in court in Nairobi over the death of Grace Wangeci Kinyanjui, 42.

“Police officers rushed to the hospital but found that the woman had a gunshot wound, fresh stab wounds and her fingers were also broken”, reported Daily Nation.

Alden is now being held by authorities in Nairobi, but his lawyer has now revealed his side of the story.

One report claimed Miss Kinyanjui, who ran a security firm, was at the house helping Alden and his wife pack for an upcoming move.

He said: “She was taking selfies and the gun went off”.

“Richard says he is not responsible”, Mr Monari said. “The girl shot herself by accident”.

The father-of-three, a former executive for financial services company Deloitte, has been in police custody since Saturday and appeared at Kibera law court in Nairobi yesterday.

Mr Monari added: “The maid was somewhere in the compound and she heard a shot”.

Electoral records show Mr Alden and his wife Martine lived in Wimbledon, west London, in the mid-1990s.

The results of a post-mortem and a ballistic examination will be announced in court on Friday.

Police recovered a spent cartridge from the house and later confiscated his Gloak pistol with 34 live bullets.

“Richard Alden shot the woman he was having an affair with dead after a disagreement”, the website quoted blogger Robert Alai on Sunday, June 5.

Alden is married with three adult children, Monari said.

She also allegedly had a fractured left thumb and ring finger and had been stabbed in the back.

The Police Commander said they were alerted to the incident by Alden’s guards who saw him drag a lifeless body to his vehicle which he then took to hospital, it is said.
