Formula 1 season to start earlier in 2016 after team complaints

The issue of sound emerged after the switch from V8 engines to V6 hybrids in 2014.

“For 2016, all cars must have a separate exhaust wastegate tailpipe through which all and only wastegate exhaust gases must pass”, the WMSC statement reads.

The WMSC (World Motor Sport Council), the arm of the FIA responsible for deciding all rules and regulations in motorsport, announced earlier this week that the 2016 Formula One calendar would be brought forward, with the Australian Grand Prix to be held two weeks prior to its original date.

The FIA also ratified a number of other minor changes to the Formula 1 regulations for next season, including clarifying the issue of track limits.

“We are now faced with a second grand prix date change in five months directly impacting our event”, Ironman organisers said.

“Penalties will still be allocated based on whether a driver is judged to have gained an advantage”. In addition, if changes are made after the qualifying session, preference would be shown to drivers whose teams were earliest to inform regulators.

Another major announcement made during the meeting regarding the drivers was that any driver who causes a false start will not be allowed to rejoin the grid on restart, instead they will be forced to start from the pit lanes.

For 2017, on board cameras on stalks on the nose of cars will be prohibited.

Teams will now have to make sure their cars comply with all cockpit and safety equipment requirements during testing – including position of the driver’s head, headrest padding, cockpit padding and ease of driver egress.
